Mando Bust

I’ve always loved the Mando character and have built several models of him in the past for troopers who have asked me to create them. Recently, I was approached by a collector to make a life-size display of this particular character, and I thoroughly enjoyed the process. The revised design of the fabric components really enhanced the overall look, and the weathering was a lot of fun.

I used a replica cape from JJ Industries, along with printed 3D parts that I prepped with a top coat and then applied a high-gloss black 2K paint. I also used graphite powder to give it a shine. I know that during production, they used a different type of paint, but I have always preferred the feel of graphite powder. It provides a beautiful color with a subtle mirroring effect—not overly reflective. Additionally, it’s really enjoyable to weather and age specific materials and compositions in the end.
