A rtadition dating back to ancient Rome, the challenge coin serves to show you belong to something special…in my case the 501st legion. They exist at the legion, detachment, garrison level. They also exist as a personal coin that troopers may exchange as collectibles; something I had not done yet.
However to mark the 10th official anniversary of my first registration I decided to design my own coin.
The red side stands for “the redshirttrooper” a persona a created to show my love for the two STAR – WARS and TREK. I have a costume that mashes up the classic stromtrooper and the red shirt landing party. It has my motto ” To boldly Show” as used by the business I started RED2 Ltd. and lists how I enjoy my fandom as a maker, designer, collector, trooper.
The black side is about the 501st and my signature ” Keep Trooping” design. It obviously celebrates the 10th anniversary, as well as where I was born and where I live. It also lists all the designation I currently hold as a member of the 501st based on all the costumes I have completed and registered officially.
I do not intend to exchange these or just give them away ; I want to offer them to special people in recognition of a meaningful connection; and particular moment that we have shared and that somewhat impacted me.
