been looking at screenshots again – this time Mando S03 and the commando build… especially the shoes. When I first saw them I though they were wearing the same boots as the New Era TK and FOTK , white ankle boots, flat sole, side zipper … which in terms of continuity of design on the timeline ( something Shawna Trpcic is showing an incredible expertise at) would make sense.
Looking closer (way way closer), we can identify an extra front “strap” covering most of the front of the boot, with 3 stitched lines and going all the way up to the top line. However the general look of the boot remains similar as above: the sole looks flat and seems standard 2 cm wide. The toe cap is rounded and flat just like the NETK boots. Same side zipper too on the inner boot.
But then a BTS shows an actor ( without the armor on) and a “clear” shot of the boots from the front which really get my attention. The boots toe cap and vamp look different with an “angled” line. The tip edge is very unclean, actually sides seamed disconnected from the welt of the shoe – It is white, it has the front strap piece but it looks much more as if that it is a entire piece made to glue atop an existing boot (mando style) – the sole seems wedged but it could be due to the gluing – more to the front of the sole than the back –
My theory: during shooting some boots got damaged, or sizing did not work for a specific actor, or simply not enough existing boots … with shooting time constraints they had to be creative and emulate the boots by covering whatever shoe was available on set… and its great like that !
Enter possible CRL controversy
01 screenshots from the actual show “clearly” highlight one form of the boot similar to NETK with an additional “tongue” piece -> by definition this is CRL material (IMO)
02 someone will argue that the BTS shot publicly shared shows that an existing boot was covered with white material and thus the boots MUST have as thicker wedge soles. (not entirely supported by multiple screenshots from on screen depiction)
03 someone will claim in-depth knowledge from trusted sources they cannot share publicly (or otherwise) which confirms that indeed some of the shoes ( at least one, maybe more but not all?? they cannot say for sure) were standard shoes covered with the design pattern.
Best case scenario CRL accepts both at equal standing ; worst case scenario, internal politics and bragging right come into play .
