During the week of the announcement for Celebration Japan, I realized it might be a great opportunity to create a large costume to wear for the event. Naturally, my thoughts turned to the Wampa. I planned to make a full Wampa costume that would be transportable to Japan. However, since it is a very large creature, I struggled to figure out how to construct it in a way that would fit within the luggage limits set by the airline, so I had to rethink my plan.
Fortunately, I had already completed the hat, which acts as a helmet. This allows you to place the head on top of your own, while seeing through the mouth, which is wide open. The mouth features a magnetic system that lets you remove the bottom jaw for easier access when putting the helmet on. You could also replace it with a different jaw that isn’t as open. The mouthpiece is made from 3D-printed resin, hand-painted, and surrounded by glued hair. Inside, there is a visor that blocks visibility from the outside, making it so no one can see your eyes, while giving the illusion of an open mouth.
I have no doubt that I will finish the rest of the costume, but unfortunately, it will likely only be used for display here, as I don’t see myself carrying it around very much.
